Meet your Speakers

 

Managing Partner of Cohen Highley LLP, Laura Gurr, is a member of the Multi-Residential Housing Group, with a focus on condominium law and affordable housing. Laura represents condominium corporations, non-profit housing providers, property managers, and developers in every faction of their business including development, governance, operations, and litigation matters. Laura prides herself on her practical, creative, and sustainable solutions that prevent and resolve disputes.

Laura is passionate about affordable housing, equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives, and community service. She is actively involved in the condominium and multi-residential housing industry and has served on the Board of Directors for the Canadian Condominium Institute (London Chapter), and the non-profit housing provider Homes Unlimited (London) Inc.

Megan is an experienced licensed paralegal with Cohen Highley LLP. She practices in the Commercial Litigation and Multi‐Residential Housing Groups. Her Commercial Litigation practice is focused within the Small Claims Court jurisdiction, including enforcement. She represents both Plaintiffs and Defendants in contract disputes and/or tortious actions. Within the Multi‐Residential Housing Group, Megan represents condominium corporations at the Condominium Authority Tribunal (CAT) and property managers and landlords at the Landlord Tenant Board (LTB). In addition to litigation representation, she assists with regulatory compliance and risk management strategies. In all cases, Megan works with her clients to prevent and resolve their disputes by finding practical, cost‐ effective and sustainable solutions. She prides herself on her open and steady communication with her clients.

Cst. Barry MacDonald

The London Police Service (LPS) was formed in 1855. It started with 8 officers who served a population of 10,000 citizens and has grown to over 800 officers who serve a population of over 400,000 citizens.

A core duty of any Police Service is to prevent crime and provide assistance and encouragement to the community in the prevention of crime.

Crime Prevention seeks to improve the quality of life for all citizens by reducing crime, fostering community involvement in addressing crime and strengthening citizen’s perceptions and knowledge of safety.

Cst. Barry MacDonald is a member of the LPS Crime Prevention Unit and has been a member of the London Police Service for over 25 years. He has also spent time in Uniformed Patrol, Community Foot Patrol, Emergency Response, Use of Force and Financial Crime.

He is happy to meet with the Canadian Condominium Institute (“CCI – London”) and share any information he has gleaned in his time as a member of the London Police Service.
